ASAP Bari, from the hip-hop collective ASAP Mob is being sued for an alleged sexual assault by a woman who claims he assaulted and humiliated her by posting video of the alleged attack online. A woman identified only as Jane Doe is suing the designer for more than $1 million for an incident that allegedly took place on July 9 in a London, England, hotel where some of the ASAP Mob members were staying. In the documents filed Thursday, the woman claims Bari – whose real name is Jabari Shelton – burst into the hotel room while she was sleeping and began yelling, “You f—– my assistant, now you are going to f— with me.”
In the documents, Jane Doe claims Bari and one of the men present during the incident shared the video on social media. The woman claims that the video was released to punish her for going to the police. She also claims Bari’s attorney pressured her to release a joint statement denying the incident took place, which she refused to do.
“A misleading video clip featuring adult content and activity has been released to the public without my knowledge or consent,” Bari said in the statement on social media. “Comments about myself or anyone being detained or arrested are false. We have resolved this issue amicably among all parties as adults. We were friends before this and will remain friends afterwards. Being raised by strong women who taught me to respect everyone, I’m disappointed in the situation as well as myself and will reflect on the situation appropriately.”
The victim, who is represented by Marty Singer, believes Bari attacked her because she denied him at the club the night before. Bari’s attorney apparently pressured Jane to release a joint statement saying the assault never happened. She declined to take the offer and is now suing Bari for $1 million.
