The Kardashian family is never short of media attention regardless if it is good or bad and with the term “Cultural Appropriation” being thrown around like it has this past year it was no surprise that it would be end up attached to the Karsdashian family.
From stealing the lips of Black people to taking their style and making it popular without giving them credit, their name has been associated with “Cultural Appropriation” on multiple occasions. However, this occasion of the Kardashians coming under cultural appropriation is not for them taking from the Black community, but it has not caused them to be short of fire from the media with the headline below everywhere.
This time the Kardashians have found their inspiration among the Asian community and have designed a purse called the “KK Express Purse” which is shockingly similar to Chinese Take-out boxes.
After consulting a few people in the Asian community it seems as if the Asians are completely fine with it as they feel that they are finally receiving more exposure in a positive light. Now if we can only get RiceGum to date a Kardashian.
This purse has been pulled from Saks Fifth Ave and other retailers for cultural appropriation and plagiarism causes. Their purse actually resembles a Kate Spade’s 2014 “Hello Shanghai” bag (image below).
