Its been a week since the devastating horrors of hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and many Puerto Ricans have yet to receive aid. 97% of residents still have no power and about half the population has no running water. There have been reports of planes filled with supplies but many residents claim to have never seen them. Trump has said the recovery is more difficult in Puerto Rico because of how far the island is. The limited operations at Puerto Rico’s international airport also make it difficult to move resources into the area. However, American law overlooking disaster assistance does not exclude Puerto Rico from federal funding and aid. The Defense Department has stated it expects a total of 240 aircraft to arrive in Puerto Rico over the next 24 hours to assist its residents and hopefully bring peace of mind to the island and its people.
